Blackburn are set to sign Brighton midfielder Andrew Moran on loan.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Moran is set to join Rovers on loan for the season, with the Irishman having a medical booked for Friday.
Moran is ‘highly rated’ and had plenty of interest from abroad in Germany and Holland, however, Brighton preferred a move to Ewood Park due to the manager’s possession-based style of play.
Who is Andrew Moran?
Moran is a 19-year-old Republic of Ireland under-21 international who has been at the AMEX since the summer of 2020, when he joined from his native Bray Wanderers.
He is predominantly a central attacking midfielder, but can play on both the left and right wing. He had also been of interest of Stoke City and Queens Park Rangers.
Earlier this week, he scored a brace against Walsall in the EFL Trophy, including a second goal when he finished off a nicely worked move with a half volley into the bottom left corner, which the keeper spilled into the top left.
This would be his first taste of regular senior football, having only made three appearances for Brighton’s first team to date, with one of those being a 12 minute cameo in the Seagulls 1-4 away win at Everton in January.
Blackburn are lucky that Brighton want to loan our Moran still, following an injury to Julio Enciso, which could keep him out for some time.
He would be Rovers’ fifth signing of the transfer window so far, after signings of goalkeeper Leopold Wahlstedt, striker Niall Ennis, and midfielders Sondre Tronstad and Arnor Sigurdsson.
Rovers have been targeting a centre-back of late, with Reading’s Tom McIntyre, Union Saint-Gilloise’s Ross Sykes and Sunderland’s Danny Batth all players to have been of reported interest.
