Blackburn are interested in signing Union Saint-Gilloise defender Ross Sykes.
According to Alan Nixon, Rovers are keen to add to their centre-back options, with the reported move for Danny Batth looking to be coming to a close, with the club looking at younger players instead.
Sykes fits the bill in terms of what Blackburn would want and is said to only be available for £600,000, with Union making a profit on the man they spent only £250,000 on a year ago.
Sykes is also said to be interested in the move back to England.
Would Ross Sykes be a good signing?
Sykes is a 24-year-old centre-back who joined Union from Accrington Stanley, the club in which Sykes came through at.
He ended up making over 100 appearances for Stanley, and helped them gain promotion to League One by winning League Two in 17/18.
He enjoyed a great first year out in Belgium, making 20 appearances as Union finished third in the league, whilst also helping then progress to the quarter-finals of the Europa League and the semi-finals of the Belgian Cup.
Blackburn are in need of a centre-back and have been looking at players such as the aforementioned Danny Batth, and Reading’s Tom McIntyre.
It is unclear how much Blackburn will have to spend, however, with a lot of talk off the pitch this summer about what budget would be available for Rovers manager Jon Dahl Tomasson to use.
At only £600,000 Sykes provides an affordable option, with there also being seen as profit to be made on him, due to his age. The same can be said for McIntyre however, with Reading’s financial issues meaning they are in no position to be asking for more than he’s worth.
