Blackburn Rovers are said to be interested in signing Reading defender Tom McIntyre.
According to Darren Witcoop, Blackburn have looked at a deal for McIntyre, although a move is not said to be close at this stage.
The 24-year-old had been linked with a move away earlier in the window, and appears to still be of interest to a club in a higher division.
Should Blackburn sign Tom McIntyre?
Tom McIntyre has been at Reading his whole career, but has struggled of late. He was a key cog in the defence that got relegated from the Championship last season with the Royals.
That poor form has continued into this season, with the former Scotland U21 international starting both of Reading’s games in League One, but failing to keep a clean sheet in either clash, including conceding a calamitous goal away at Port Vale last weekend.
McIntyre has looked like he needs a little bit of guidance on the field, with an experienced head next to him. Rovers could provide this with the likes of Dominic Hyam, a fellow Reading academy graduate.
Blackburn are in need of a centre-back following the departure of Ashley Phillips to Tottenham and Daniel Ayala being released. Rovers have been linked with Danny Batth in the last week. However McIntyre is a lot younger and has more potential to become a regular for Blackburn in years to come. Reading could also do with the money due to their ongoing financial problems, so this deal appears to make sense for both parties if they can get it over the line.
