Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton is being looked at by Crystal Palace.
According to Alan Nixon via his Patreon, Palace’s director of football Dougie Freedman went to watch Wharton last week.
It is said that Palace would like to buy him in this transfer window or find an agreement for next summer. They are also open to loaning him back this season, but only for the right price.
Palace are also said to be aware of Blackburn’s interest in their winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who have been linked with signing him on loan. Palace may look to use this in negotiations.
Everton are also said to be ‘desperate’ to sign Wharton, but have not been able to sell the players necessary to fund buying him.
Would selling Adam Wharton be a good idea?
Wharton broke into Rovers’ first team last season, going on to make 18 appearances, starting 12 of those. The defensive midfielder has featured in all of Rovers’ games so far this season, starting four of them.
Blackburn put themselves in a great situation with Wharton contractually, tying him down to a five-year-deal last summer, meaning his contract expires in the summer of 2027.
Having the 19-year-old down for another four years will prove pivotal in determining how much they get for him. It’s no secret that the amount of money Blackburn have available in the transfer market is limited, with manager Jon Dahl Tomasson frustrated with the lack of business he has been able to do because of this.
The money they would be able to generate from the sale of Wharton could be vital in how Blackburn could act going into the final week of the transfer window.
Bringing in Rak-Sakyi would also be a welcome move to bolster Rovers’ attacking options. The winger got 15 league goals and eight assists for Charlton in League One last season, so he would be ready for the step up on level to the Championship.
He has also got heavy interest from Leicester however, but this Wharton move could again sway in Blackburn’s favour.
Blackburn are also set to sign Brighton attacking midfielder Andrew Moran on loan.
