Blackburn Rovers manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has confirmed that Jon Rankin-Costello is set to return tot the squad after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Tomasson will be boosted with the return of Rankin-Costello, who he said had returned to training this week and played 45 minutes in an internal game.

“We’ve missed football in the period without games, but it was an opportunity to give a couple of days off before working on small details after a busy period of football,” Tomasson told the club website.

“A couple of players are involved again – Joe Rankin-Costello has been a positive and he got 45 minutes in his legs in an internal game.

“He’s ready to help the team ahead of seven games in 21 days.”

Tomasson also gave an update on the likes of Sam Barnes, Arnor Sigurdsson and Niall Ennis, who he said will not be involved at the weekend.

“We still have Sam Barnes out, Niall Ennis is out, Arnor Sigurdsson played 30 minutes in an internal game but will not be involved this weekend, not at all.

“It will take time with Arnor. He’s been away for more than two months and even before that, he had the injury with the national team, it will take time. We will give the boy time and work hard with him to get him ready as soon as possible because Arnor has quality.

“I said when Niall got injured that he’d only take two weeks, but we are now four weeks and he has been sick as well, but I hope everything goes right.

“He’ll probably be out for another two weeks.”
