Blackburn Rovers director of football Gregg Broughton has said that by January the club will know more about tying down Tyrhys Dolan to a new contract.

The winger’s current contract is set to expire in the summer, although Rovers do hold the option to extend it by a further year to 2025.

Rovers option means they are probably no too worried about losing him at this moment in time, but Broughton said they will have to wait to see whether he will resign or not.

“Not a great deal of movement,” Broughton told The Lancashire Telegraph. “His agency agreement runs out on October 1 and then he can go with the new agency.

“I think we’ll know very quickly whether he will sign a new contract or not. The big difference to other players that have expired is when his deal expires in two years, he’s under 24 so we’ll be protected financially from that point of view.

“By January, the situation will be clearer. Right now, I see no dip in his commitment and his enthusiasm has been the same as it has always been. He is vital for our squad moving forward.”

Gregg Broughton went on to explain that he does not believe the contract talks have affected Tyrhys Dolan’s performances for Rovers after a poor end to last season and start to this season.

“I’m not sure it has had an impact,” Broughton said. “Those contract discussions have never been with him as a player, they have been with his family or his previous agent.

“Tyrhys is a vital part of what we are doing here at Blackburn Rovers and we will continue to support him.”
