Blackburn Rovers have edured a difficult and eventful 2024 so far.
Last time round, the club only missed out on a place in the Championship play-off places on goal difference.
Now though, they are battling to avoid relegation. After a run of just two wins in 20 league games, they are currently 18th in the Championship table, just three points clear of the relegation zone.
Indeed, even a change in head coach, with John Eustace replacing Jon Dahl Tomasson in early February, has not fully turned around results.
They are still yet to win in nine games since the 44-year-old officially took charge at Ewood Park.
So with the international break now underway, we’ve rated every Blackburn Rovers’ players performances for 2024 so far, right here.
Aynsley Pears
Returned after a long injury lay-off in January, and has since produced his best form for the club.
Now starting to look like a genuine number one between the posts. 8/10
Leo Wahlstedt
Has struggled at times when filling in for Pears. However, some decent saves to earn his side a draw against Plymouth Argyle redeemed him to some extent. 5/10
Callum Brittain
After a dip in form, Brittain has looked closer to his best in recent weeks.
Is becoming a useful creative outlet from right-back once again. 7/10
Hayden Carter
The centre back has not featured since January due to a long-running injury.
As with many in this squad, his form has been mixed when he has featured this season. 8/10
Ben Chrisene
A January loan signing from Aston Villa, Chrisene has been in and out of the side since arriving at Blackburn Rovers.
Solid and promising at times, there have been other games where he has struggled to look to speed. 6/10
Dominic Hyam
The centre back has stepped in as captain since Lewis Travis’ loan move to Ipswich Town.
Another who has been better at some times than others. He did come up with a vital equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Norwich City. 7/10
Billy Koumetio
Signed on loan from Liverpool in January, the defender’s only appearance was in the FA Cup clash with Newcastle United.
There were some nervy moments in that game. However, there were also signs of potential that make you wonder why he hasn’t been given more opportunities. 6/10
Kyle McFadzean
Another January signing, McFadzean has been outstanding in bringing some much-needed experience and leadership to Blackburn Rovers’ defence.
The red card in his last appearance against Plymouth Argyle is the only blot on his copy book. 8/10
Connor O’Riordan
The January signing from Crewe Alexandra has so far made just a couple of brief substitute appearances for Eustace’s side. 5/10
Harry Pickering
Pickering has remained generally solid on the left-hand side of the Blackburn Rovers defence.
However, he doesn’t seem to offer quite the same creative outlet as Brittain on the opposite side of the pitch. 6.5/10
Scott Wharton
Wharton has looked much closer to his top level in recent months at the centre of the backline.
Defensively very solid, he may have a big part to play between now and the end of the season. 7/10
Yasin Ayari
A slow start after joining on loan Brighton in January.
However, the Swede has started to show more promise as time has gone on, with some decent performances in midfield. 6.5/10
John Buckley
Back at Blackburn Rovers after spending the first half of the season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.
The midfielder has shown plenty of quality and desire since returning to Ewood Park. He just needs to get that final pass right a bit more consistently. 7/10
John Fleck
Signed late on January deadline day, Fleck managed just 17 minutes on debut at Preston North End, before being forced off with a season-ending injury. 4/10
Jake Garrett
There have been some signs of promise again from Garrett this year, and he has stood up well at times in the centre of the park.
However, on a number of other occasions, he has struggled to impose himself on games, leaving Blackburn Rovers lacking the presence they need in that position. 5.5/10
Andrew Moran
The on-loan Brighton winger has struggled to find the right delivery on numerous occasions this year.
Also made some costly errors leading to goals in the 2-1 defeat at Swansea City. 5/10
Joe Rankin-Costello
Hasn’t featured since mid-February due to injury.
His versatility and ability to influence things either from right-back or central midfield have been missed by Blackburn Rovers. 6/10
Arnor Sigurdsson
Started the year well with goals in back to back games in league and cup.
As has been his problem throughout the season though, he has struggled to consistently produce that sort of form, struggling to make an impact at times, while looking a threat at others. 5.5/10
Sam Szmodics
Where would Blackburn Rovers be without Szmodics this season. He has scored 12 times in all competitions since the start of 2024.
Without his efforts, the club would surely be in the relegation zone. Also sets an example with his work rate and commitment, it is no surprise he is attracting interest from elsewhere. 9/10
Sondre Tronstad
Tronstad’s return from a four-game injury absence last time out was a welcome one.
That showed what an influential presence he can be in the centre midfield, something the club will surely need between now and the end of the season. 6.5/10
Tyrhys Dolan
Covers a lot of ground, and his pace and trickery can be a problem for opposition defenders.
But other than a brace in the admittedly vital 3-1 win over Stoke City, the end product has not been seen as much as Blackburn Rovers would have wanted. 6/10
Sam Gallagher
Another who will undoubtedly put himself about as much as his side need him to.
But as a centre forward, there are unavoidable questions about whether he scores enough goals. Two in the league so far in the calendar year will not change that. 6/10
Ryan Hedges
The winger recently returned from a long injury absence and his performances have been a bright spark at times.
Again though, his final ball and end product often leave something to be desired for someone in his position. 6/10
Harry Leonard
Injury has limited the centre to just two appearances this year.
Struggled in the thrashing to West Brom in the league, while he missed a sitter and scored a brilliant header in 45 minutes played in the FA Cup win over Cambridge United. 5/10
Dilan Markanday
Has only made a few substitute for Blackburn Rovers this year.
While he has struggled in some of those, more of his recent ones have suggested he may deserve more of a chance before the campaign is over. 6/10
Semir Telalovic
The young centre forward has again only been used from the bench this season.
Has struggled to make an impact in that role, and missed a huge chance to snatch a point in the final seconds of the 1-0 defeat at Birmingham City. 4/10
