Blackburn Rovers saw their wait for a win go on for another game on Saturday afternoon.
John Eustace saw his side play out a goalless draw with Middlesbrough at The Riverside Stadium.
As a result, the 44-year-old remains without a win in nine games since he officially took charge as head coach.
Indeed, it is now just two wins in the last 20 Championship games for Blackburn Rovers. That has left them 17th in the table, just three points clear of the relegation zone.
However, one positive for the Ewood Park club from that game, was the return to action of Sondre Tronstad after injury.
Sondre Tronstad back in action
Prior to this match, Tronstad had missed Blackburn Rovers’ last four games due to injury.
However, he returned to the starting XI on Saturday afternoon, and produced an impressive performance.
Writing about the midfielder’s performance in that game, the Lancashire Telegraph said:
“Calm and composed on his return from injury. A big boost to have him back in the middle of the pitch.”
As a result, Tronstad was awarded a rating of 7/10 for his latest showing for Blackburn Rovers.
Indeed, according to SofaScore, the 28-year-old made four tackles during this game, the joint most of anyone in his side.
The midfielder also won five of his ten duels, and made two interceptions, as well as one clearance.
He was effective on the ball too. The Norwegian recorded a pass success rate of 86% on Saturday afternoon. Only one Blackburn Rovers player who started the match was more successful in this match.
This therefore, was a largely successful return to action for Tronstad at The Riverside Stadium.
Midfielder return welcome for Blackburn Rovers
Having Tronstad back involved on Saturday was certainly a welcome boost for John Eustace and his team.
The club have lacked someone to enforce things in the centre of the park in recent weeks when he has been unavailable.
That is something that teams have been able to exploit at times, and was particularly costly in the defeat at Swansea City.
But with Tronstad back in action, there was a much greater sense of defensive control for Blackburn Rovers in the cenre of the park against Middlesbrough.
There is never any guarantee that a player will return from injury in top form. As a result, the fact that Tronstad has here, will be a relief for those around Ewood Park, given how important he could be in that role between now and the end of the season.
Indeed, with the international break to rest and recover, the midfielder now has a chance to play a big part for Blackburn Rovers in the final run-in starting at the end of the month.
