Blackburn Rovers battling to sign ‘brilliant’ 27 year-old from league rivals

Blackburn Rovers still have some considerable work to do between now and the end of the season.

Currently sitting 16th in the Championship table, they are four point clear of the relegation zone.

As a result, they still have some important points in big games to claim, if they are to retain their second-tier status.

Indeed, following the agony of their penalty shootout defeat to Newcastle United in the FA Cup on Tuesday, they can now fully focus on their league campaign.

Even so, there are still plans for the Ewood Park club to put in place, as they prepare for the summer transfer window.

Now, one potential target for Blackburn Rovers once the market opens, has seemingly been identified.

Brendan Galloway linked

According to a report from The Sun, Blackburn Rovers are interested in signing Plymouth Argyle defender Brendan Galloway in the summer.

The 27-year-old joined the Pilgrims back in the summer of 2021. That came on a free transfer, after he had left Luton Town.

Galloway has since endured an injury hit spell at Home Park. In total, he has made 60 appearances in all competitions across his two-and-a-half years with the club.

Even so, he has made a positive impression for the Pilgrims. Their former manager Steven Schumacher has previously described him as ‘brilliant’ in his position.

With his contract with Plymouth Argyle due to come to an end in the summer, it seems he could soon be on the move.

It is claimed that Blackburn Rovers and two others Championship sides – Middlesbrough and Coventry City – have held talks over a deal for the 27-year-old.

For their part, Galloway’s current club are apparently yet to offer him a deal. The 27-year-old, who can play at left-back and centre back, has also been capped twice at senior international level by Zimbabwe.

Defender could be a good signing for Blackburn Rovers

The addition of Galloway to the squad at Ewood Park could be a useful one.

At left-back, Ben Chrisene is only on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season.

The same can also be said for Liverpool’s Billy Koumetio in the centre of defence. Meanwhile, another centre back, Kyle McFadzean, is out of contract in the summer.

Bringing in someone such as Galloway who is capable of playing both those positions, could therefore add some useful depth for Blackburn Rovers.

At 27 years old, he could also add some important experience to what is still a relatively young squad.

Given he looks set to be available on a free as things stand, this could be a useful deal from a financial perspective as well.

However, there may be some concerns about his injury record, especially considering the problems Blackburn Rovers have had with player fitness in the past few years.

If they are able to get past that though, this could turn into a reliable signing for John Eustace’s side.
