Blackburn Rovers fans may not have to wait long for the unveiling of John Eustace as their new manager.
As things stand, the club are yet to officially announce the departure of Jon Dahl Tomasson as head coach.
However, it seems that they already have their replacement ready and waiting to step into the breach, as soon as the Dane’s exit is confirmed.
John Eustace could be Blackburn Rovers manager today
Earlier in the week, reports emerged that Tomasson is in talks to leave Ewood Park.
That came with the expectation that he would be leaving Blackburn Rovers, before their clash with Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.
It was subsequently revealed that the Lancashire outfit had identified John Eustace as the frontrunner to take over at Ewood Park. Now they look well set to get their man.
According to this latest update from The Daily Telegraph’s John Percy, Eustace is now set to be appointed as the new Blackburn Rovers’ manager.
Indeed, it is suggested that the 44-year-old could be announced in his new role later on Friday.
Eustace has been out of work since leaving fellow Championship club Birmingham City back in October.
Eustace could be an ideal appointment at Ewood Park
It does feel as though this is just the sort of move that Blackburn Rovers need to be making in the wake of Tomasson’s departure.
Many expected Birmingham City to go down last season. That came amid a backdrop of fan frustration against the Blues’ then owners. However, Eustace was able to keep them up reasonably comfortably.
As a result, with Blackburn Rovers themselves currently fighting to avoid being dragged into a relegation scrap, Eustace has just the experience they need. That is further enhanced by the fact he will also know how to cope with the anger there is at the situation behind the scenes at Ewood Park as well.
Eustace was also said to be a popular figure with his squad at Birmingham City, not least for the opportunities he gave to young players.
That could also make him a good option to get the most out of what is a young squad at Blackburn Rovers.
Given his former side were also in the play-off places when he left, Eustace may be someone who can have the same sort of effect for his new club. Of course, they did only just miss out on the play-offs last season.
Many Blackburn Rovers have also been clamouring for Eustace after news of Tomasson’s departure emerged.
So with the unhappiness they have shown at the running of the club recently, bringing in a manager they want, could be a smart move from the board as well.
