Blackburn Rovers look to have been dealt yet another blow on the injury front.
Fitness issues have hampered the Ewood Park club throughout the campaign so far, and there appears to be little sign of that changing anytime soon.
Centre forward Harry Leonard has missed each of their last four games due to a knock, which now seems as though it may be more serious.
Providing an update on his fitness on Instagram, the striker has revealed that he is likely to be out for a ‘while’ as he continues his recovery.
Now it could be argued that the latest update on Leonard’s future, could open more of a door for another Blackburn Rovers striker.
A tough start at Ewood Park for Semir Telalovic
Back on the final day of the summer transfer window, Blackburn Rovers added a new striker to their ranks, with the signing of Semir Telalovic.
The 24-year-old made the move to Ewood Park from Borussia Monchegladbach. He had previously spent much of his career playing for their second-team, in the German fourth-tier.
While he was described as ‘great’ by previous head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson, things haven’t really gone right for Telalovic so far.
In 17 appearances in all competitions for Blackburn Rovers so far, the 24-year-old is yet to score or provide an assist.
Indeed, he has started just four games across all competitions for the club. None of those have come since the appointment of John Eustace as head coach at Ewood Park.
So far, Telalovic has played just 36 minutes of senior football since Eustace took charge of Blackburn Rovers.
But with Leonard now facing a spell on the sidelines, it is possible the German may soon get another chance to show his potential in the Championship.
Blackburn Rovers may need Semir Telalovic to step up
That injury to Leonard has left Blackburn Rovers rather short on options at centre forward.
The club of course, missed out on the deadline day signing of Duncan McGuire, following a late submission of paperwork.
Combined with that latest injury blow, it means that Telalovic and Sam Gallagher are now the only fit and available senior natural centre forwards for Eustace to call upon.
Admittedly, Gallagher has been in excellent form over the course of the past few weeks, both in terms of goalscoring, and his all-round play.
However, he only returned to action in January, after several months out due to injury. Consequently, those at Blackburn Rovers may be reluctant to put too much of a workload on his too soon.
If they do that, they may well risk Gallagher suffering another setback that keeps him out of action for longer than he needs to be.
As a result, with Leonard out of action for the time being, that may now mean that it is Telalovic who has to step up, if the club do the smart thing in protecting Gallagher from time to time.
That in turn, may give Telalovic to impress the watching Eustace, and earn himself a run of games in the starting XI, that he might otherwise not have got.
With that in mind, you wonder whether this setback, could potentially present Telalovic with a fresh chance to kickstart his Blackburn Rovers career, in the near future.
