Blackburn Rovers head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson may already have a new job lined up, ahead of his anticipated exit from Ewood Park.
According to reports on Wednesday night, the Dane is in talks to confirm his departure from Rovers.
Indeed, he is not expected to be in charge for Saturday afternoon’s crucial clash at home to Stoke City.
However, it seems that even if he is to leave Blackburn imminently, the 47-year-old may not be out of management for long.
Tomasson could take charge of Sweden when he leaves Blackburn
According to an update from Swedish journalist Daniel Kristoffersson, Tomasson is one of the candidates to take charge of Sweden’s national team.
It is claimed the Blackburn boss is one of the final candidates for the role. Jens Gustafsson is also said to be in contention to take the job.
Gustafsson is currently manager of Pogon Szczecin, who are sixth in the Polish top-flight. It is thought that either Tomasson or Gustafsson will be offered the job.
Although he is Danish, Tomasson does have plenty of pedigree in Swedish football. Prior to taking charge of Blackburn, he won back to back titles in Sweden’s top-flight with Malmo.
During his time with the club, he also took them to the group stages of the Champions League.
Sweden role could suit Tomasson well
It could certainly be argued that the Sweden job would be a good one for Tomasson to take.
He certainly appears to have taken on a lot during his time in charge at Blackburn. Not only has he had to deal with the day to day nature of club football, but there have been plenty of other challenges thrown at him with the off-field issues at Ewood Park.
The less intense nature of international management, where he is not having to worry about a game every few days and the business side of a club, could suit him for a change in pace.
As has already mentioned, Tomasson is also familiar with Swedish football, from his time with Malmo.
That could ensure that he fits in well if he takes a job with the country’s national team.
With that in mind, a return to Sweden may be ideal for Tomasson, if and when he does leave Blackburn Rovers.
