Blackburn Rovers certainly had an eventful January transfer window.
Over the course of the month, the club made six new signings and saw four players leave, with the club receiving a record fee for the sale of Adam Wharton to Crystal Palace.
There was of course, also the controversial failed attempt to sign striker Duncan McGuire from Orlando City.
One other bit of business that raised eyebrows in January was the departure of Lewis Travis.
Leading up to the window, there had been comments from then head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson about the need for experience in the squad.
Despite that, the Blackburn Rovers captain – who has made over 200 senior appearances for the club – was allowed to join Championship rivals Ipswich Town on loan until the end of the season.
Now though, it seems there is a chance that Travis could get the chance to return to the squad at Ewood Park when his loan spell comes to an end in the summer.
John Eustace opens door to Lewis Travis return
Since the departure of Travis, there has of course been a change of head coach at Blackburn Rovers.
That came with the departure of Tomasson at the start of this month, with John Eustace appointed as his successor almost immediately.
Now it appears as though Eustace is keen to work with Travis in the future, opening the door for his return to the club.
When asked about the midfielder, the new Blackburn Rovers boss told the Lancashire Telegraph:
“I haven’t spoken to him yet, we can’t bring him back at the moment. He’s a player that I have admired over the years, he’s been a very good player at the level. It’s something we’ll have a chat about over the summer.”
There will still be two years remaining on Travis’ contract with Blackburn Rovers come the summer.
That secures his future at Ewood Park until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Travis return would be good news for Blackburn Rovers
It would certainly seem to make sense for those involved to bring Travis back into the setup at Ewood Park in the summer.
The midfielder is a key source of leadership for Blackburn Rovers on the pitch, something they do seem to need more of right now.
With Wharton gone, and Yasin Ayari and John Fleck only on deals until the end of the season, the club also look set to face the prospect of a lack depth in midfield in the summer.
Bringing Travis back into the side would help them to deal with that issue. It is also possible that Eustace will be able to get more out of the 26-year-old at Ewood Park than Tomasson was.
Given he has also played just 14 minutes in Ipswich Town’s last four games, that doesn’t seem to be a move that has worked out for Travis either.
As a result, a return to Blackburn Rovers for their club captain in the summer could make sense for all concerned.
