Blackburn Rovers midfielder Jake Garrett has said he can ‘hold his own’ in midfield as he wants to break into the Rovers team on a regular basis.
Garrett broke into the Rovers team last season making eight appearances, starting four of those. He has only played 13 minutes in the Championship so far this season, however.
Garrett has started both of the EFL Cup games against Walsall and Harrogate this season, and is hoping to use those performances to hopefully get more opportunities.
“It has been good,” Garrett told the Lancashire Telegraph. “Obviously, there have been ups and downs but there have been loads of games I have been involved in.
“I’m getting more experience, I don’t want to be known as one of the young lads anymore. I have settled in and can hold my own in that midfield.
“The past year has taught me a lot, especially the downs. That is where you learn the most.
“When I’m on the sidelines and not playing, it is about being patient and working hard every day to get myself back in the thoughts to get on the pitch.”
Garrett is learning to be patient
Garrett went on to explain that he is learning to be patient for opportunities whilst he is out of the team
“I am a bit of a hot head as you can see on the pitch. But I am learning about being patient.
“We have got a really good squad here and my position is a really competitive one at the minute.
“It is about working hard every day and doing what the gaffer wants. But also when I get opportunities like (Harrogate), I have to play well and take my chance. Hopefully, then I will be in the manager’s thoughts for the league games.”
Garrett has scored a few goals this season in the EFL Cup against Walsal and Harrogate, and hopes to grab some more this season.
“I want to score, get assists and help the team as much as possible. Hopefully, I can kick on and really help the team.
“When the goal went in (against Walsall), I have never felt anything like that before. Hearing the crowd, it was unbelievable and a moment I will never forget. It makes me want to get more goals and experience, it is exciting.”
