Stoke City and Coventry City are credited with an interest in Blackburn Rovers striker Sam Gallagher, though the fee is seemingly a stumbling block for any possible transfer.
According to Alan Nixon, neither Stoke or Coventry would be willing to meet the £5million asking price that Blackburn have placed on the forward’s head.
The Potters may return later in the window as they are keen, but the 27-year-old’s wages could prove to be another issue for Alex Neil’s men with Gallagher said to be on a “very lucrative contract” with Rovers.
Mark Robins’ Sky Blues are searching for a Viktor Gyokeres replacement following their star man’s transfer to Sporting CP, however, they are unlikely to return to the table as a deal for the Blackburn striker appears too expensive.
Gallagher has made 208 appearances for the Rovers since signing from Southampton in 2019. During his time at the club so far, he has scored 43 goals and registered 20 assists.
There are currently four contracted strikers at Ewood Park following the exit of talisman Ben Brereton Diaz to Villareal on a free transfer. Gallagher being one, the other three being new signing Niall Ennis, the injured Jack Vale, and youngster Harry Leonard.
What next for Gallagher?
With that being said, it is no surprise that Blackburn would require a hefty fee for their most senior forward.
The Championship season kicks off in just under two weeks, so time is slowly ticking away in the transfer window. The later a deal is struck for Gallagher, the less chance that Rovers will find a suitable replacement.
It would be a big surprise to see the towering striker depart the club this summer as it is looking more than likely that he will remain at Ewood Park for the foreseeable future.
