Blackburn Rovers are interested in the signing of young non-league striker Ollie Godziemski.
According to Alan Nixon, the 17-year-old has been on trial with Rovers’ youth side and has scored twice during that time.
Godziemski, currently on the books at Welling United in the National League South, recently committed to the Wings for the upcoming 2023/24 campaign but could now be on the move to the Championship outfit.
The youngster made a name for himself last season after an impressive scoring streak in the FA Youth Cup. He then made his senior bow for the club in the London Senior Cup against Charlton Athletic as a half-time substitute, producing an eye-catching display as he helped Welling find an equaliser to force penalties.
A graduate of the Ballers academy before signing for the Wings, Godziemski came through the ranks with the sixth tier side prior to his debut against Charlton in April.
Rovers are set to make a decision on him shortly after he caught the eye on both of his trips to Lancashire. It is firmly expected that he would be an addition to either the Under-18s or Under-23s if he was to sign on the dotted line at Ewood Park.
There is no doubt that the youthful striker will be hoping he has made the right impression. Hitting the back of the net twice will certainly have done him no disservice.
What is next for Godziemski?
Moving to Blackburn could prove to be the step-up needed for him to start excelling at a higher level.
He could follow Joe Garner and Matt Derbyshire as strikers to have come through the Rovers’ ranks and force steady careers in the Football League, although his ceiling may well eclipse the former pair should things go to plan.
It is now a waiting game for Godziemski, and he is sure to be chomping at the bit to hear back from the Lancashire outfit.
