Blackburn Rovers may well have to deal with interest in a number of their senior players come the summer transfer window.
The club currently sit just three points clear of the Championship relegation, with just two wins in their last 20 league games.
As a result, other teams may sense an opportunity to prise certain individuals away from Ewood Park, when the market opens again in the summer.
Within the senior side, top scorer Sam Szmodics is an obvious candidate to attract interest from elsewhere.
Now though, it also seems as though the future of one of Blackburn Rovers‘ up and coming prospects could be the subject of much speculation in the coming months.
Rory Finneran attracting transfer interest
Earlier this year, midfielder Rory Finneran made his own piece of history at Ewood Park.
Coming off the bench in Blackburn Rovers’ 5-2 win over Cambridge United in the third round of the FA Cup in January, Finneran became the club’s youngest ever debutant.
At the time, the midfielder was just 15 years, ten months and eight days old. Now, his progress is starting to attract interest from elsewhere.
According to Daily Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath, top-flight clubs from Germany are now taking an interest in the teenager.
It is thought those teams have watched the Blackburn Rovers youngster, during his appearances for Ireland’s Under 17s team over the international break.
Blackburn Rovers face a fight to keep Rory Finneran
It could be difficult for the Lancashire club to retain the services of Finneran in these circumstances.
While they are currently battling to avoid relegation to League One, some of these interested clubs could offer the midfielder the chance to play in one of the top leagues in the World.
That could make a move hard to turn down for the midfielder, due to the financial and footballing opportunities it may give him.
Should that be the case, it would be an issue for Blackburn Rovers. At his age, Finneran is not yet old enough to sign a professional contract at Ewood Park.
So if a move did go through this summer, they would not be able to demand as bigger fee as they would for a more senior player.
In turn, that would mean the club could miss out on a sizeable return, that could be useful for reinvesting into the club.
Even so, this level of interest is another indicator of the high quality players that Blackburn Rovers are recruiting and developing in their academy.
