Blackburn Rovers will look to pick up their first win since John Eustace officially took charge of the club on Saturday afternoon.
The Lancashire outfit are set to host Norwich City at Ewood Park, in a 3:00pm kick-off.
That game will see the hosts look to repeat their 3-1 win over the Canaries, from their meeting at Carrow Road back at the start of November.
But with David Wagner’s side now chasing a place in the Championship’s top six, that may not be an easy task for the hosts.
So with that in mind, there is one Blackburn Rovers player who will surely have to return to their starting lineup for this weekend’s match.
John Buckley back in action
It has been something of a strange season for John Buckley. Having struggled for game time in the league, the midfielder was allowed to leave Blackburn Rovers on the final day of the summer transfer window.
That move saw him join Sheffield Wednesday on loan. However a shoulder injury cut short that stint at Hillsborough, and he was recalled by his parent club in January.
Buckley then returned to action for Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night. The 24-year-old came off the bench for the final half hour of his side’s goalless draw with Cardiff City.
Speaking after the game, Eustace admitted to being a ‘big admirer’ of the midfielder.
All of that suggests that the Blackburn Rovers boss does have one easy selection call to make, when it comes to tomorrow’s game with Norwich.
Blackburn Rovers have to start John Buckley
Prior to Buckley’s introduction in the Welsh capital, it had been an underwhelming night for his side on Tuesday.
Passes had been consistently, the midfield overran, and they had never looked like scoring.
With Buckley on the field though, things did seem to change for Blackburn Rovers. Eustace’s side found themselves with an outlet in the centre of the park, with the 24-year-old putting them much more on the front foot.
He also added a semblance of control in that central position, preventing Cardiff City from showing as much threat as they had done, before he had got on the pitch.
Given he has now shown he can stand up to that test, there seems to be little reason for the hosts not to start Buckley against Norwich City.
Indeed, given they played better when he was involved, it would surely make sense to start the 24-year-old.
That is a sentiment that is shared by many Blackburn Rovers, and so giving him an opportunity in the starting XI, could be important in lifting the matchday mood at Ewood Park too.
As a result of all that, starting Buckley does look to be a no brainer for Eustace come Saturday afternoon.
