Blackburn Rovers have endured a particularly tough time of things of late.
Last season, the Ewood Park club only missed out on a place in the Championship play-offs on the final day of the campaign.
This time around though, things are rather different. Following their 1-1 draw with Millwall on Tuesday night, it is now just two wins in the last 18 league games for the club.
That has seen Blackburn Rovers slide down the Championship table. They are now 17th in the standings, just two points clear of the relegation zone.
Indeed, even a change in head coach has done little to change fortunes. In seven games since he replaced Jon Dahl Tomasson, John Eustace is still yet to claim a single win.
Now, there has been some scrutiny placed on those making the decisions at Ewood Park, over some of those changes this season.
Blackburn Rovers made ‘another error’ with style change
There has certainly been a difference in approach since Eustace took over from Tomasson in the dugout.
Under Tomasson, Blackburn Rovers looked to play a free-flowing, attacking style of football.
Eustace though, has looked to make his side much harder to beat. While that has worked in terms of reducing the number of goals they have conceded, they are struggling to get the goals they need to win games as a consequence.
Elsewhere, the squad put together by those in charge, means Blackburn Rovers are a team often playing with a lack of senior experience.
All of that is something that journalist Alan Nixon believes points to poor management, by those making decisions at Ewood Park.
Responding on X to one Blackburn Rovers fans who questioned whether the recruitment department needed to take blame for the situation, and if the change in head coach was a mistake, Nixon said:
“Recruitment depends on budget. The strategy has been wrong. And changing style of play mid season another error. It lacks knowledge at the top.”
Eustace will look to guide his side to three crucial points when they return to action with the visit of Plymouth Argyle at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon.
Pressure building at Ewood Park
It is noticeable that frustrations are growing around Blackburn Rovers at this moment in time.
There have been many expressions of frustration about the situation at the club in recent matches at Ewood Park.
Given how close they were to breaking into the top six last season, that is understandable when considering how far and how fast they have fallen so quickly.
Admittedly, many fans did appear to want Eustace as the man to take over, when it appeared Tomasson was set to leave Blackburn Rovers.
So far though, that has yet to yield the wins the club need to stay in the division. There will therefore be questions asked if they are unable to avoid relegation over the coming months.
It is also obvious that the lack of experience on the pitch that many have wanted adressed for some time, has not been dealt with enough. It was yet another young squad who finished Tuesday night’s draw with Millwall.
The lack of attacking threat is also highlighting the mistakes made with the collapse of the signing of Duncan McGuire on the final day of the January window. Even without that, it was not a good look for the club.
With all of that in mind, there are plenty of questions to be asked for those in charge at Blackburn Rovers. It is likely they will only get louder, if results do not improve in the coming weeks.
