Blackburn Rovers have had to deal with plenty of injury issues over the course of this season.
At one point or another, it numerous players have been out of action for a variety of reasons relating to fitness issues.
That has surely not helped the Ewood Park club in their battle to avoid relegation from the Championship.
As things stand, Blackburn Rovers are 16th in the second-tier table, four points clear of the relegation zone.
Now, it seems as though they are going to have to do without one injured player for a few more weeks yet.
John Fleck injury update emerges
One player who Blackburn Rovers did manage to sign on the final day of the summer transfer window, was John Fleck.
The midfielder moved to Ewood Park on a free transfer from Sheffield United, signing a contract until the end of the season.
Fleck was then an unused substitute in the club’s first three games after his arrival.
He was finally given his Blackburn Rovers debut earlier this month, in the 2-2 draw at Preston North End.
However, he was forced off with a leg injury just 17 minutes in to that match. Since then, he has failed to make another appearance for John Eustace‘s side.
Now it could be some time yet before he is back in action, judging by the latest comments from the Blackburn Rovers boss.
Providing an injury update on Fleck, Eustace told the Lancashire Telegraph: “Flecky looks like he might have to have an operation on his leg so that is something we are discussing at the moment.
“Hopefully it won’t be too bad. He will be out for the next couple of weeks. I hope he will be back soon and get it fixed.
“He has come to this football club with huge experience and he’s a very good player at this level.
“I think even the first 15 minutes at Preston, you could see his value to the team and to the squad. He will be a miss but I hope we can get him back sooner rather than later.”
Injury update a big blow for Blackburn Rovers
This latest news on Fleck will be rather disappointing for those at Ewood Park.
The first half of this season saw many calling for the addition of more experience to the Blackburn Rovers squad in the January window.
It did seem as though they had got that with the addition of Fleck. But with the 32-year-old set to be out for a while longer, he is not going to be able to make any such contributions on the pitch.
Indeed, with Fleck unavailable for several more weeks, Eustace does not have many natural central midfield options to call upon for the time being.
That could therefore put pressure on the likes of John Buckley and Jake Garrett, especially with Sondre Tronstad also under supervision for an ankle problem right now.
There could therefore, be plenty of pressure on Blackburn Rovers in the centre of the park over the next few weeks.
With the precarious position they are already in at the minute, that is something they could well do without.
