Blackburn Rovers ended up having a rather eventful January transfer window.
With regards to the first-team squad, the collapse of the move for Duncan McGuire, meant that six new players arrived at Ewood Park.
There were also four more who departed the club before the market closed. However, there have been rather mixed fortunes for those who joined the Lancashire outfit.
While some, such as Kyle McFadzean and Ben Chrisene have been heavily involved since joining Blackburn Rovers, that has not been the case for others.
Connor O’Riordan and Yasin Ayari have both made a handful of appearances, while John Fleck has laregly been restricted by injury. Even so, they have been shown they may get a chance in this team.
However, the same cannot exactly be said for Billy Koumetio.
Liverpool loanee waiting for Blackburn Rovers chance
On the final day of the winter window, Koumetio was added to the squad at Ewood Park.
The centre back joined on loan until the end of the season. In doing so, he became the latest in a long list of players to join Blackburn Rovers on loan from Liverpool in recent years.
So far though, that move has not exactly gone to plan for the 21-year-old. There have been six matches the club have played since Koumetio joined.
After being an unused substitute for the first two, the centre back didn’t even make the matchday squad for Blackburn Rovers in their next three games.
He eventually returned to the squad for Tuesday night’s goalless draw with Cardiff City. That though, may have been down to the fact that both Fleck and Ryan Hedges dropped out for fitness reasons.
Again Koumetio was an unusued substitute in that game. As a result, there may be an argument to suggest that the Liverpool man may be questioning his decision to move to Blackburn Rovers.
A frustrating season for Billy Koumetio
Prior to his deadline day move to Ewood Park, Koumetio had spent the first half of this season on loan with USL Dunkerque.
However, the centre back managed to make just eight appearances for the club, who were battling to avoid relegation from the French second-tier.
Having struggled for opportunities there, Koumetio would have been hoping for more game time after linkingup with Blackburn Rovers.
So far though, those chances have clearly not come. Instead, the 21-year-old seemingly find himself someway down the pecking order at Ewood Park.
Indeed, his prospects of getting opportunities in John Eustace’s side may decrease even further in the coming weeks, when Hayden Carter returns from injury.
As a result, this move is not really giving him the chance or develop, or catch the eye to earn an opportunity for next season.
Not only is he not getting game time, but Blackburn Rovers also find themselves in a precarious position right now. They have won just once since Koumetio arrived, and are just six points clear of the relegation zone.
This therefore, may not be the most positive situation for him to be in at this moment in time either.
With that in mind, it seems as though this move to Blackburn Rovers, is one that may prompt Koumetio to give some extra thought, to potential future transfer that may be offered to him.
