Blackburn Rovers officially begin life under John Eustace on Tuesday night.
Following the departure of Jon Dahl Tomasson, Eustace was appointed as the Ewood Park club’s new head coach on Friday night.
The 44-year-old was then given a watching brief for Saturday’s match at home to Stoke City. However, he still found himself down on the touchline, coaching his side through the second half of a 3-1 win over the Potters.
Next up for Eustace with his new side, is a trip to St Andrew’s to face his old club Birmingham City on Tuesday night.
Eustace left his role with Blues back in October, and will be well aware of the threats they could pose to Blackburn Rovers this week.
Birmingham City may bring Jay Stansfield back into the XI
One player who has certainly impressed for Birmingham City this season is Jay Stansfield.
The on-loan Fulham striker is Blues’ top scorer this season. In 31 appearances in all competitions this season, he has scored nine goals.
Indeed, speaking when he was still Birmingham City manager, Eustace described Stansfield as an ‘excellent player’.
The striker dropped to the bench for Blues’ 2-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday on Friday. However, Birmingham City manager Tony Mowbray explained that was to give the 21-year-old a rest from fatigue.
That may mean he could now come into the starting XI against Blackburn Rovers, especially after looking bright as a substitute in that game.
Blackburn Rovers should stick Kyle McFadzean on Stansfield
Like Eustace, another individual who had his first involvement in a Blackburn Rovers game on Saturday, was Kyle McFadzean.
The centre-back made the move to Ewood Park late in the January transfer window. That deal saw him sign on a free transfer from Coventry City, until the end of the season.
McFadzean made his first start for Blackburn Rovers against Stoke City on Saturday, and certainly impressed.
According to Sofascore, the 36-year-old made three clearances during that game. No Blackburn Rovers player made more.
He also won two tackles and made one interception, while completing five defensive actions. That was again a joint-highest number for his team.
The sight of him completing the game with a bandage wrapped around his forehead following a collision, only further endeared him to Blackburn Rovers supporters.
If they do indeed come up against each other, it could be interesting how the experience of McFadzean, copes against the youth of Stansfield.
Should the Blackburn Rovers man come out on top against a player at the opposite end of his career, then it could go some way to stopping one of Birmingham City’s big threats on Tuesday night.
