Blackburn Rovers have endured a tough season in the Championship so far.
The previous campaign saw the club only miss out on the play-off places on goal difference on the final day of the season.
This time around though, has been rather different. A recent poor run of results has now seen them dragged into a relegation battle.
Indeed, a change in head coach, with Jon Dahl Tomasson replaced by John Eustace, is still yet to fully yield an upturn in results.
Consequently, there have been numerous expressions of frustration with the club’s board at Ewood Park recently.
There is however, things that can be done come the end of the season, that may help to improve the situation.
So with that in mind, we’ve taken a look three things Blackburn Rovers have to do in the summer, right here.
Address the Duncan McGuire transfer collapse
For the second January transfer window in a row, Blackburn Rovers saw a signing fall through on deadline day for administrative reasons. This time, it was Orlando City striker Duncan McGuire, who saw a move to Ewood Park collapse.
With that deal having not been completed, the club have badly struggled for a cutting in front of goal recently. That has not helped the mood around the club, and nor has the fact it is yet to be addressed by anyone from the club.
That will surely have to change by the summer, if not before, to show fans that this is a situation they are taking seriously, and taking steps to avoid happening again in the future. As a result, there may well have to be changes in personnel behind the scenes.
Reinvest funds available to Blackburn Rovers more efficiently
Despite the clamour for greater experience in the squad, Blackburn Rovers have still been finishing games with a relatively young side in the past few weeks.
The lack of experience, is another thing that appears to be hindering results, and some fans have argued that the individuals brought in recently have not been good enough. Improving the quality of players signed by the club, will therefore be another expectation to avoid a repeat of the current situation. That is of course, assuming they do stay up.
The money they have from the late January sale of Adam Wharton, and the sell-on clause to come from David Raya’s permanent move to Arsenal, means there should be funds available for such signings. It seems therefore, as though there ought not to be many excuses for Blackburn Rovers not to enjoy a productive summer transfer window.
The Tony Parkes Riverside Stand
Admittedly, this will not directly impact the club’s fortunes on the pitch. It would however, be a fitting tribute to someone who gave so much for the club, both as a player, and in so many other roles, in the form of Tony Parkes.
It would also be a fitting show of support for Parkes as he continues to battle dementia, despite which, Blackburn Rovers clearly still means so much to him, by renaming the Riverside Stand in his honour.
This sort of recognition is something that many fans of the club have long been calling for. Implementing it would therefore also show fans that the club are willing to take things on board, which could help to improve the relationship between the two parties, after a tense period of late.
