Blackburn Rovers look as though they will soon officially be on the hunt for a new manager.
According to reports on Wednesday night, head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson is in talks about his departure from the club.
Indeed, the Dane is not expected to be in charge when Rovers host Stoke City at Ewood Park on Saturday.
It has been a tough run of late for Blackburn. They have won just once in their last 11 league games. That form has seen them slip to 18th in the Championship table, just five points clear of the relegation zone.
As a result, it is vital they get things right when recruiting their next manager. With that in mind, we’ve taken a look at three potential replacements for Tomasson, that Blackburn must consider.
John Eustace
One name that a number of Blackburn fans are already pitching for the role, is John Eustace. The 44-year-old worked wonders to keep an unfancied Birmingham up last season, amid a backdrop of behind the scenes issues.
He was then building on that during the current campaign, with the Blues occupying a play-off place when he was harshly sacked back in October.
His immediate availability, proven track record in getting results in difficult circumstances, and popularity among fans as a potential appointment, all suggest he is an option worth pursuing for Blackburn to replace Tomasson.
Gary Rowett
Rowett is another who is currently out of work, following his departure from Millwall earlier this season.
Having also managed the likes of Birmingham, Derby and Stoke at this level, the 49-year-old has a plethora of Championship. Given the challenge facing Blackburn right now, his knowledge of the division would certainly be useful at Ewood Park.
Indeed, Rowett has never really faced a genuine threat of relegation while managing in the Championship. As a result, he is an option Rovers could be confident would steer them to safety.
Neil Harris
Perhaps a more out there appointment considering he is currently managing with Cambridge, Harris may still be worth considering.
He has plenty of experience managing in the Championship with the likes of Millwall and Cardiff, so knows how to steady a ship in this division. The 46-year-old has also recently overseen a rapid turnaround since taking over at Cambridge, to help pull them away from the League One relegation zone.
Indeed, his current side recently gave Blackburn a big scare at Ewood Park in the third round of the FA Cup. That may indicate that he has a decent idea already, of what may and may not work in this Rovers team.
